Milltown students will travel to Nim's Island

The students at the Milltown Primary School will explore Nim’s Island in March.

During a school-wide assembly that was held in the school’s gymnasium, on Friday, March 1, the students were introduced to their book during Milltown’s One Book One School initiative.

The highly anticipated announcement of what book they will engage in followed a film that encouraged empathy.

Matt Lembo, the Milltown Principal, explained the assembly and what lies ahead for the Milltown students.

“During our afternoon meeting, we celebrated children who demonstrated EMPATHY in February,’’ Principal Lembo said. “We introduced our theme for March, Honesty, and kicked off our One Book One School initiative.’

He continued to talk about the reading adventures.

“Our Media Specialist, Mrs. (Gina) Cocivera-Wright and our School Secretary, Andrea McKenna, have led a group of about 20 faculty members and dozens of children who have transformed our school into the setting of the book, Nim’s Island. Throughout March we will read the book as a school, share our learning of new vocabulary and develop academic and social language.''
