Last tennis match loss in states at Columbia

The 2025 campaign for the Bridgewater-Raritan High School boys’ tennis team reached its conclusion on Tuesday, May 27.

Like they did all spring, however, the Panthers did not go down without a fight at Columbia High School in the state sectional quarterfinals.

Sixth-seeded Bridgewater-Raritan (3-11) found itself in an early position to take the majority of its matches at third-seeded Columbia (7-5), but the host Cougars ultimately pulled away late in their remaining courts to seal a 4-1 victory over the Panthers in the NJSIAA North New Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 sectional quarterfinals at the Baird Community Center in South Orange.

“We knew that with the schedule that we had, every game was going to be a grind,” second-year Bridgewater-Raritan head coach Evan Rosenberg said of his squad’s season-ending defeat in Essex County. “This is what you want in tennis and in any sport.”

“You want to play the best competition, because it prepares you for moments like this.”

Bridgewater-Raritan senior Nicholas Brauchle and junior Devon Patel defeated sophomore Mason Beaupierre and junior Oliver Grauman in second doubles by a result of 6-2, 6-2 for the long victory, but this was not reflective of a close match that could have gone in either direction.

“I challenge you to find a team that played the schedule that we played throughout the season and a better three-win team across the state of New Jersey,” declared Rosenberg. “Not only did we battle tough teams, but we battled scheduling conflicts and weather. Luckily, we were able to stay pretty healthy. We fought at the end in a really good [Columbia] team here, especially against guys that went far individually in [the Essex County Boys’ Tennis Tournament].”

“We hung with them, and I’m just proud of our guys and how they fought all year.”

Graduating from Bridgewater-Raritan High School this June are the following six members of the Class of 2025: Sid Balasubramanian, Nicholas Brauchle, Asher Joseph, Kanaya Mehta, Aditya Shetty, and Brandon Wu.
