Title I

Title 1 is a program through which most school districts receive federal funding to provide supplemental instruction for students who qualify.  The funds for each school district are based on a State formula that is calculated by the number of students from economically disadvantaged homes.

The purpose of Title I is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps. Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provides financial assistance to schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging, State academic standards.

Students who qualify for academic support may receive services in English language arts or mathematics.
