Milltown STEAM night

The challenge was to build a skyscraper—not too big so it would fit inside he gymnasium at the Milltown Primary School.

Milltown’s STEAM Night, coordinated by Bryan Smith, the school’s Health and Physical Education Teacher, and Meredith Alvarez, a 3rd Grade Teacher, was held on Friday, February 27, with 30 families in attendance.

Mr. Smith explained the festive evening.

“ Families come in and we explain what STEAM is, the design process, and the connection to our One Book One School, “The Cricket in Times Square.”

Milltown’s dedicated Mr. Smith further spoke about the night.

“This year's challenge was to create the tallest free-standing skyscraper using popsicle sticks, tape, and pipe cleaners. Families are given 10 minutes to design blueprints for their skyscraper, and then 50 minutes to build.”

Mr. Smith concluded.

“It was a huge success, not only were the skyscrapers so creative and well built, but more importantly, seeing the families work together, spend time together, and have the school-home connection is really the main goal of this event.”
